The Company commenced distributing films under the Roadshow brand in 1970 and in August 2007 Roadshow Films became a wholly owned subsidiary of Village Roadshow. Roadshow Films distributes theatrical movies to cinema, video, DVD, Pay Television and free to air television in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to holding the exclusive distribution rights for movies produced by Village Roadshow Pictures, Roadshow Films has contracts to distribute movies from Warner Bros., New Line, The Weinstein Company and other independent production houses. Roadshow Films has also been a strong supporter of the Australian film industry, recently releasing movies such as Bad Eggs, Crackerjack, Wolf Creek, Jindabyne, Boytown and 2:37.
Roadshow Entertainment, a division of the group's distribution division is the leading independent distributor of Videos and DVDs to both retail and rental chains. In addition to feature films, Roadshow Entertainment has the exclusive rights to distribute Video and DVD televisions product for the ABC and BBC catalogues, Hi-5 and sports in association with Channel 9.
Roadshow Entertainment also distributes music CD's for selected Australian artists and ABC children's music. Over the last eight years Roadshow Music has signed acts including Savage Garden, Aneiki, Darren Hayes and new artists Wicked Beat Sound System, Rachel Kane and The Butterfly Effect.
For pay TV, Roadshow Television has teamed up with Warner Bros, Disney, and MGM to create The Movie Network - three movie channels distributed on the Optus and Austar Pay TV platforms and now available on Foxtel. The channels provide the latest first run features and classic re-runs from the partners' extensive movie libraries.
In addition to its Australian and New Zealand distribution divisions, Village Roadshow also maintains distribution operations in Singapore and Greece. |
